My constructions are based on a theme or mood and for them I make studies from nature, watercolours and drawings.
I focus on a particular part of nature- sea, sky, rocks- manipulating the shapes and colours for expressive purposes. The seaside area of rocks, caves and pools that I have visited for the last 5 years have provided images for all sorts of moods.I find inspiration for work from a still rock pool,or rock formations, holes and tunnels of great complexity, with water gently rippling, or flashing and banging through them, with jets and sheets of spray shooting off the rocks
With each construction I look for materials which are best suited to the idea or theme I use wood, plastics, paint, metal and mesh of all sorts – materials that are ideal for the semi-transparency of water, cloud and mist, the hardness of rock, curved shapes, sharp edges and soft dissolving layers.
Windows, doorways/sliding doors/screens, curtains, light have caught my attention recently- the interchangeable far and near…being caught/not caught
